Okay, that helps a lot.  I'd hate to buy one (assuming I could) and find it won't work with

your software AFTER buying your software!

So, what do you think are the odds that the fire-i on ebay is new enough to have the more

sensitive chip?  Or would you consider probably ending up paying 75 bucks to win that bid

too close to the price for a new board beastie?

So.  I'm confused.  There's a fire-i camera, NIB, on ebay right now.

It's got the plastic

case.

Yes..

the bids are high enough at this point ($50), that I might just prefer

to buy a new board

camera to be sure that it's got the more sensitive CCD in it.

Okay..

But:  there are two color versions listed, though they use the same

Sony CCD.  The "RAW

Color Version" says "480 TV lines (as monochrome before d-Bayering,

user dependent

after)", whereas the "Color version" says "400 TV lines".

You mean on

i_board_camera.htm

right?

The "RAW version" is a new product. I don't see where you can order it

from, what price it's at  and I don't know if it's compatible or not -

but I'd guess that it won't be recognized. Also I'm not getting one to

check it out either as thanks to Homeland Security - it now cost me

$150 CDN to receive and return "evaluation" cameras back and forth

across the border now due to all the freaking paper work and fees.

And yes it does matter which camera it is, for example Point grey

Research's Fire Fly cameras uses the TSLV1501 chip set that the

Unibrain, iRez, iBot, ADSPyro cameras uses,  - but it isn't set up the

same way and does not work with Astro IIDC at all.
