Not that it's a big deal or anything, but do you know this to be true, or is it just an

assumption.

If it's an IIDC camera, it will work with them - just not as well as Astro IIDC for image quality.

Astro IIDC re-writes (and restores when it's done) the camera firmware so that it can do other things - so if the camera deviates at all from what we expect it to be set up hardware wise (timing of and between components etc.) - it won't work reliably.

Reason I ask is that, except for the name, it's physically identical to the Unibrain Fire-i,

and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find "Unibrain" printed somewhere on the board if I

open up  the case.

I'd really doubt that - as they would be undercutting Unibrain. I know for a fact that he Color CCD alone for them costs $20 - $25 USD (depends on volume), so I'm guessing those cameras are probably being discontinued.

In any event, given the download options, I'll probably choose to lisence the copy for use

with the computer rather than the camera, so I can use multiple cameras as I add them

and fiddle with them.   But I'll probably want to replace the old Macs before I do that.

Okay.
