Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] License question
Hi Willie;
The license scheme is pretty clearly described on the Astro IIDC web site at:
http://www.outcastsoft.com/ASCASTROIIDC.html
in the "Purchasing:" section.
------------START QUOTE---------------
To meet the needs of the majority of our customers, the unlock keys can be specified for particular FireWire Camera(s) or for a particular Mac when you order them.
If you purchase unlock keys for a camera then you can use that camera on multiple Macs, simply by copying the unlock key to those other Macs. This is intended for a Lab situation where you have many Macs with one or a few shared camera.
If you purchase an unlock key for a Mac then you can use any of the supported FireWire cameras with it. This is intended for people that have access to multiple FireWire cameras and want to use any of them with a specific Mac, such as a work station situation.
------------- END QUOTE---------------
So in your case the cheapest most convenient option is to license the single camera so you can use it on all your PowerPC Macs, including new ones you buy or replace.
Replacement of licenses due to hardware failure is done on a case by case basis. Generally speaking were pretty liberal about it, but is someone swapping cameras or Macs more than once a year , then I'm going to say no to all future request for it for them.
Hope that Helps..

I should receive my Unibrain camera today and will be licensing Astro
IIDC. I have a 900 MHz G3 iBook with 640MB ram which I use with my
telescope. I routinely use and have registered Equinox &
Astroplanner. I want to be able to capture video on an external hard
drive and then process it on my wife's G5 iMac. Does that require 2
licenses for Astro IIDC? I wont be using a camera with the iMac. It
is highly unlikely that I will ever have the iMac in the field with
the telescope.
This may be an obvious question if I had actually used the software,
but I have only read all the messages.
I am brand new to astrophotography. I have taken some pictures with
my Canon Digital Rebel but they arent very good.
Another question concerning the license for one machine. I have
already had my iBook in the shop for a keyboard problem. It came
back with a new logic board and therefore to all my software was a
new machine. What happens in a case like that with the Astro IIDC
license? Or if I sell this machine and get a faster laptop? What
then?
I can hardly wait to give the new cam and software a try. Thanks,
