Subject: Re: longer firewire cable
The only thing I would caution is that Apples' FireWire cable is
fragile and their have been reportes of the cable not working properly
after being man-handled. The thinner the cable, the tighter the wires
can be bent and the more prone to wire breaking off internally.
If it ever breaks internally, you'll start to see eratic non
repeatable problemss happening with the camera - like dropped frames,
not responding properly, not gettign power etc. etc.
I was doing Microsoft Driver Signing for a FireWire device and we kept
failing the tests erratically. It eventually turned out to be a bad
cable that when bent in one direction would work - but in the other
would short out. So when we unplugged the device, it would go nuts or
not repond properly. Watsed a whole day of trouble shooting before we
tracked down what the culprit was. We cut the cable in half and threw
it in the trash. I think we were goign to make a FireWire cable tester
to ensure that this didn't happen again, but I left the company
before that happened.

I use the thin firewire cable sold by Apple. It works fine for me and
is more flexibility and lighter weight than the standard issue
