I am using it without an eyepiece or barlow. I tried with the barlow
and couldnt get it to come to focus. I ran out of travel on the
focus.
That's "Prime Focus" then. You mentioned a Flip mirror, which will extend the focus even further back and in that case, it may not be possible to achieve focus with the barlow (too far back), assuming you have your optical train like Telescope -> barlow -> Flip Mirror -> Camera/Eyepiece.
Umm .. how long is this home adapter you've made then? On my longest home made one, it's 1.5 inches from the CCD to where the 1.25" barrel fits into the eyepiece holder.
Also the further back your camera is from the barlow, the more the magnification is. I have a 2x barlow and with a 1.5" distance between it and the camera, I actually get an 3.1x magnification out of it.
Hope that helps..
