That's interesting. Isn't that cheaper than buying the camera in the case?
Depends where and what you buy. I've seen the orange boxed set (with software, case, tripod - but M10x0.5mm lens mount) for $99.99 USD.
One thing I had to do, since I epoxied a film can to the outside of the case, was to epoxy flat
plastic sheets to the case because the case is dished in front, and the dish is not centered on
the ccd, so the film can wasn't coaxial with the chip.
That is definitely detrimental to getting sharp focus across the CCD. The slightest off center / of axis / tilt means the CCD isn't perpendicular to the light path. It's usually best if you epoxy right to the lens mount and then cut the case open with tin snips (or toher implements of destruction) to allow it to fit.
I probably won't buy a new lens mount for that camera, since I want a newer camera and
bought a multi-camera/single computer lisence. But if I do buy a new fire-i, I think I'll buy a
board camera and then a case separately, then use the mogg adapter I bought for use with
the ToUcam and the 3com (actually the one I have wasn't made by mogg).
The M12x0.5 mount on your USB cameras can probably be used with a Unibrain camera too. There were 4 sets of holes in the Unibrain boards I have here.
