I am thinking about getting a better FW camera (b&W). What exactly will that get

me? I assume more sensitivity and better S/N <

Yes, more sensitivity and hence an image with better S/N at the comparable

settings. You will also find that the image is significantly more stable when you

isolate specific wavelengths with filters than it is in white light. Of course the

drawback is the added work of capturing and processing multiple streams to

create a full color image and the added cost of a filterwheel and filters. The

Unibrain B&W board camera is pretty good but it is plagued by a strange pattern

that covers a portion (maybe a third) of the chip. It is not an issue with bright

targets like the moon and sun - but it is a nuisance with planets. I am very happy

with my DMK camera - Milton and Tim could talk more about the Point Gray

cameras - they look very good too.
