Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] mars with dust storm

Hi Alan;

All I got to say is WOW - what a shot and what detail considering seeing was "poor".

That's totally amazing. All the other shots I've seen show the storm as patches, but in your image their is actual detail in the morphology and shape of the clouds. Also on the terminator in the second image, you can sure pick up bluish cloud haze on the equator.

Once again great shot and thanks for sharing..

Hi All -

I've uploaded a mars image from this morning showing the progression of the dust storm

captured in Duane's image from a day earlier.

This image was captured using my 10" mak at f30 (I normally use f45 for planetary images

with the mak) because the seeing was quite poor. At this magnification the disk and

features showed better contrast than at the larger size - Astro IIDC had a very easy time

with the smaller planetary disk, allowing me to complete the image and get it posted to

ALPO and other forums much faster than with my usual slow hand selection routine.

Unsharp masking and combination into a color image was done in Adobe Photoshop CS2.
