Jim:
very cool! I tried to find some plumbing fixtures that would work without too much
modification (I have the Aplux version of the fire-i, it even uses the Unibrain case), but it
never occurred to me to look in the conduit section of Home Despot. I epoxied a film can,
with the bottom cut out, to the case. Since the Fire-i case is "dished" on the outside, but
not concentric with the ccd (a plot!) I epoxied a couple of flat pieces of plastic to the case
to flatten the front out (scavenged from one of those bolt organizer drawers with plastic
dividers), then epoxied the film can to that. But the epoxy didn't stick well to the film can,
and one day I set it down "hard" the epoxy gave way. I taped it on for a while after that,
but since I got the Flea camera, I don't use the Aplux anymore.

Thanks to everyone for their insightful advice concerning my Mars
imaging. I'll try again with attention to red gain and see if more
details arise, should be getting my JMI Motofocuser soon which will
greatly aid in focusing - now I understand what the fuss is about with
Feathertouch focusers and the like!
Included some images of using electrical conduit pieces as a Unibrain
adaptor. The pieces are I believe screwed into junction boxes to allow
the straight conduit pipes to attach to the box. Prices are dirt cheap
and you need to enlarge the circular opening on the Unibrain (I scraped
it several times with a penknife) and also sand down the diameter of
the conduit just slightly.
Like Milton I had originally hot glue gunned some plumbing pieces but
one night imaging at about 3 Celsius the glue debonded and swearing
could be heard following the falling pieces.
