Subject: Re: Unibrain Adaptor

It may be my filters or the way I exposed a few of my shots. I have gotten some OK colors

on my recent attempts but none of the shots are very clear. Probably seeing conditions but

maybe focusing issues with the setup I have when using this camera (?). Camera>Cmount

adapter>IR Filter>Barlow>Filter Wheel>8" LX200.

Alan posted a color separation recently and I took his R, G and B and put them in their

perspective channels in photoshop. On my system, it was green at first but with two quick

adjustments it looked great. I took the L and loaded it as an alpha channel and in a new

layer used the selection to add in the black information (opacity set low). I used the

selection again to boost the bright area contrast with curves and then inverted and

boosted the dark area contrast separately. It was a lot of fun. It's easy when the images are

as great as Alan's. I think I've got the color channels mastered but my images are just

"mushy".

I'm having more fun with the unibrain. It's so much easier —Camera>adaptor>IR>scope.

The only tough part with the Unibrain is finding the darn planet. It's sensitivity is so much

lower that you need to be close to focus to find the darn planet. I watch the numbers

(sharpness) to locate it but the DMK is way easier in that way. I can also barlow farther

with the DMK which is nice.

I am going to try the color version of the DMK and see how well it works out. If my results

are better than the unibrain and the sensitivity is an improvement, I'll be very happy with

it.

It doesn't sound like anybody here has the color version of this camera (?). I might as well

fill that gap :)

Hi Duane;

Well the camera does like you, as you did take a nice Saturn shot

with it.

I still think your main problem is with the color filters and color

mixing, which can probably be solved if you try shooting terrestrial

targets. That you can see what real colors look like with your eyes

and then makes them match.

You guys hit the nail on the head! I'll bet that's my whole

Hay Tim, how much was that Flea? They don't post their prices but

it looks pretty cool.

I'm 20 days into my 30 day evaluation on the DMK camera. I'm

probably going to send it

back as I'm frustrated with it (and its probably not its fault). I

might try their color version

or I might switch to another camera. The DMK is $590 if I keep it.

Yea, that camera doesn't like me. My Unibrain likes me. He's my

little buddy.
