Sony finally admitted that it had some really serious Q&A problems with their CCD's between 2002 and 2005. Symptoms include CCD's not transmitting video (ie it died), color problems and distortion etc. Many cameras are affected by this. I know that The Imaging Source, Meade and other manufacturers that use Sony CCD's have been affected by this.
