Hi Jim;

It makes a big difference on the processing end, especially when your using an "aperture challenged" scope, like my MAK 127 mm is - at least compared to what most (200 to 300 mm aperture) people use.

One thing people can do to save space without losing any data (compressing with QuickTime in most cases will result in lost image data), is to compress the movie using stuffit or the built in zip compression in OS X. You will get 3 (zip) or 4 (stuffit)  to one compression, so a 4 gigabyte movie becomes a 1.3 to 1 gigabyte movie. However compressing them is not fast (it takes about 1 hour to compress 9 gigabytes of video on my 2.5 gighz G5) , but it's something you can do to free up some space without losing a movie.

I prefer stuffit because it produces smaller (by about 15 to 30 %) archives and because I have it do a folder of movies  with the capture logs and then can browse the folder without decompressing all of it afterwards. Apple's .zip utility can't browse them.

To create an OSX .zip file, you need to control click on a file and in the pop up menu that appears, select "Create Archive <file name>". Then it makes a .zip out of it.

HTH..

Milton,  thanks for the response - I actually got all the images in the pm you sent me.

I can't believe how much stacking and processing improves your raw image!

Unfortunately I can't send any myself because I cleared my drive to make room.  I

found that my raw images tend to look somewhat like my final stacked one and I tried

stacking at lower confidence levels but the sharpness and detail were actually slightly

worse.
