Subject: Re: What about the dragonfly 2?

I should probably clarify this some.

The ToUcam has a 1/4" chip, if I remember correctly.  And it's got decent sensitivity,

though it's noisier than higher end cameras.

The Flea has a 1/3" chip, which makes finding and centering the planet somewhat easier.

With the ToUcam, I shot with a 2x barlow most of the time.  With the Flea, I use a 5x.  The

image is larger, but not as large as it would be with the smaller ToUcam pixels.  And so

when I'm centering at prime focus, the planet falls on chip easier than with the ToUcam, is

all.

I don't even use my flip mirror anymore.  I just set the exposure to 1 second so the out of

focus planet is still bright enough to see, center, drop in the 5x, and Robofocus is all

ready set to my previous night's position (I usually only have to make minor changes at

that point).

I'd consider the Scorpion, because of the larger, more sensitive pixels, and larger chip

(even easier centering at prime focus).  But I just ordered a ST2000XM for galaxy imaging,

so I should probably hold off a bit before buying ANOTHER camera.  ;o).

P.S.  Alan.  I bought a Kendrick dew heater with the basic controller a couple weeks ago,

and next to the Robofocus, I find it's the most useful accessory I've added so far.  I set it at

the lowest setting, which kept dew off the optics the whole session, and the seeing got

"good" and stayed that way for a couple hours.  Before, I had to equilibrate again between

"blow drier events", and in reality must not have achieved it before the corrector dewed up

again!

Milton could be more specific, but the reason I didn't go with the dragonfly is the 1/4"

chip.  Too small.

Hi - Somehow I neglected to notice that the PGR dragonfly 2 is cheaper than the flea.

Does

Astro IIDC support the dragonfly 2?  The specs look basically as good as the flea.

Does

anyone out there have any experience with it?

Thanks
