Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Astro IIDC license transfer

Hi Milton,

We have no transfer policy at all. You can either register for a Camera or a Mac. If you register for a camera, then you can use that camera on multiple Macs and if you register for a Mac, then you can use multiple cameras on that Mac. In your case, you can register a Camera and then can use it on your "Future" Mac.

Well, I have a lot of cameras which I would like to use on this one laptop. So what you are saying is that when I buy a new laptop, I'll have to buy a new license as well?

I assume verification of a sale is prohibitive of mounting a license exchange program. How do other users go about this?

However if the camera or Mac gets broken, stolen, lost or repaired under warranty (which changes the internal serial numbers),  then we will replace the license up to a maximum of one time per year. We have already done this for several customers already. We do not allow you to cross over licensing either, so if you purchase a license for a Mac, you can only get a replacement license for a Mac - not a camera.

All very reasonable.....

Lastly their will never be any universal binaries either. Apple's XCode is atrocious for building PowerPC code (i.e. 100% loss in performance for our Altivec code) over what CodeWarrior delivers and I don't expect this to ever improve as Apple has abandoned PowerPC architecture. So if we do go Intel in the future, then that will be considered a new version just as if we had ported Astro IIDC to Windows.

Fair enough ;-)

With kind regards,

Planeten Paultje.
