Subject: Messier 5 Globular Cluster Revisited

Hi Folks;

I just posted a new version of M5 I shot last week.

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Astro_IIDC/files/DSO/M5_20060531_MJA.jpg

It was fairly a difficult target as thin haze with light pollution

raised the visual limiting magnitude to about 2.0, so a generous use

of levels to remove the high background was neccessary. And if you

over expose or over process it, you lose the contrasting reddish

yellow and blue colors of the core stars.

It was auto guided at 7.5 fps off a Mag 5 star using the Shoe String

Astronomy's GPUSB controller with the HEQ5 mount, a cheap Appogee 80

mm aperture F10 refractor and an old Unibrain Fire-I color camera.

Guding turned out good with nice round stars. I used 2 copies of Astro

IIDC, one guiding and one imaging at the same time.

TTYL..
