Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] problem with saving settings

Hi Eric;

In the Users Preferences folder, there may be a bunch of files named "com.outcastsoft.ASTRO_IIDC.CameraSettings00.plist"  to  "com.outcastsoft.ASTRO_IIDC.CameraSettings09.plist" and there might be up to 10 of them numbered 00 to 09. Those are the where each camera settings are saved.

If they are there, try deleting them first and then try saving and re-storing a camera Setting. It's possible that the files themselves are somehow corrupted  and OSX is crashing when it goes to save them. Apple changed the format of the .plist files between 10.3.x and 10.4.x from text based to a binary format and perhaps that's part of the issue?

If it crashes after you try the above, then send me a crash log to "milton(at)outcastsoft(dot)com".

Also any reason you have not moved up to OSX 10.3.9 that I should know about? I don 't believe I have any Macs or any back ups  with 10.3.7 to test with. We did all our testing with 10.3.9 and various flavors of 10.4.x.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Milton,

Here's what I have and the problem description:

IIDC version 3.00.01

PowerBook G4

DMK21AF04

OS X version 10.3.7

Problem description:  I save settings using any title, there is a hesitation, and then the program crashes.  When reopened, the new settings do seem to be present and can be selected. The camera is attached and video enabled.

I have the "crash report" that I can email you separately if you like.

Thanks,

Eric

Hi Milton,

Second chance this summer to try out Astro IIDC.  Last night, I ran into a problem, however.  Whenever I tried to save the camera settings, the program would shut down.  When I would reopen, sometimes the new settings would be present and sometimes they wouldn't.  Any idea as to the cause?

Nope - no one else is reporting these sorts of issues. I just tried it here with 3.00.01 and it seems to work fine both saving and re-storring.

Before I can have any idea what the issue is, what camera are you using, which version of Astro IIDC (3.00, 3.00.01 etc.), what type of Mac (PPC PowerBook, iBook, x86 MacBook Pro etc.)  and what OS X version (i.e. 10.4.7) etc. etc. It's tough to offer suggestions when I have no idea what your set up is.

Also  if it crashed, then there should be a crash log report being generated indicating where and what happened.  I'll need a copy of it before I can look into it. And even if you did not save it then, hook the camera up and try it again to see if you can duplicate the issue.
