Thanks.  Next time, I will definitely do that to get an idea of what's being stacked.  I routinely try to apply the same level of sharpening to each area, but that was assuming the same number of frames stacked per area.  Now I'll be able to modify it.

Hi Eric;

If you check marked the "Post statistics for each movie to log file"
in the "Stacking Options..." window, then Astro IIDC will print off
statistics and other information on the processing of each movie into
a text file.

That includes the number of frames that were actually stacked (look
for "Stacked x out of x frames", noise levels (i.e Pixel Noise
Percentage: 1.506936) etc. etc.

HTH..

composite. I have posted comparison images. On the left, is the
original 415 stacked images composite using 5 alignment points. The
right image is the same number of stacked images (415), but alignment
points were increased to 17. If you look carefully, there is definite
improvement, although mostly subtle:

I also ended up using a Win program called Iris to do the 17 points,
although the initial image on the left was aligned in IIDC. I think
the lack of contrast and noise levels caused IIDC to eliminate about
half of the stacked frames.
