Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Astro IIDC Doesn't Like My DMK 21AF04, Either

Hi David;

On 13-Sep-06, at 10:09 AM, David Illig wrote:

At the time of my earlier post I had not attempted to use my new copy

of Astro IIDC 3.

Here is what I did:

- To prevent possible interference I unplugged my iSight, disabled iChat

(which, as you know, grabs a FW camera as soon as it is plugged in,)

and deleted all traces of the IOXperts driver.

You didn't have the iSight plugged in when you were using IOXperts driver did you? That might explain why you got such poor frame rates as Apple runs the iSight as fast as possible and that could soak up all the available band width. And the iSight may be used for all sorts of things beyond iChat, for example as an audio microphone.

- I installed Astro IIDC 3 with the camera plugged in.

- When I saw that "Registration Options..." was grayed out I closed the

camera window and read pages 5 & 6 of the manual. (Really!)

Then I was able to enter the unlock key for Astro IIDC 3 from the

clipboard.

Yep - that's described in the FAQ in the Read me First and on our FAQ on the Web Site too. Also the Tool Tips for the "Registration" menu states "Only available if no cameras are in use", which I'll change to be more pointed in what it refers too.

- I got a message saying "Success! Your Unlock keys have been

accepted... The next time you launch the "Astro IIDC 3" application,

these keys will be used."

- I took this to mean that I needed to quit and restart Astro IIDC 3.

That is correct.

I did that, then I clicked the "Start Video" button, but the video window

displayed the message "Unregistered Version."

That is where I am now.

That's because your license for Astro IIDC (both Version 2 and 3) is camera specific. It's registered to camera #C00D0F5400400033B (00D0F500 is the manufacturers id for an iBot) not the new Imaging Source Camera.

You can buy a second copy license for $35.00 either for another Mac or this new Camera as described on this web site.

The only anomaly I can see is that the camera is shown as a

"DMx 21AF04" rather than a "DMK 21AF04."

That is the actual internal camera name, as it's read out of the camera registers. So it's normal to see it as a DMx as there are multiple variants of the DM series of cameras (i.e cased version, machine version, OEM version etc.) . If you were using an Prosilica camera, it shows up as "Digital Camera (DCAM 1.31)" which makes no sense to me at all, but that's how the named it.

I'm sorry to be such a bother. Thanks

No problem.

Hope That helps..

PS:

On a side note, you can use Astro IIDC to extract the Vendor and Camera ID  to verify it against what IOXperts says it is. Just follow the Registration instructions for "I Want To Purchase unlock key(s) for"  Page 5 and 6. Click on the radio button "all attached FireWire camera(s)". After you click "Okay", it will put a17 character device ID into the clip board (copy and paste it into any text editing app) which should be "C0007481301E22D88". We append the "C" to the actual ID so we can tell what your registering and it's "C" for a camera and "M" for a Mac.
