Subject: New Imaging Source Cameras "A" and "B" series No Longer Mac compatible

Hi Folks;

Over the past 6 months, I've had 3 reports of people having issues

with "The Imaging Source" DxK "A" and DxK "B" series cameras not

delivering video with Astro IIDC (two in the last week).  By DxK I

mean DBK, DMK or DFK and it must be one of the "AF or "BF" series.

This is not an Astro IIDC issue, the cameras will not work with any

software on a Mac or if it does work, it does so intermittently.

To try and figure out what is going on, "The Imaging Source" sent me a

DFK 21BF04 camera today, and I can duplicate this behaviour perfectly.

To try and chase it down, I hooked it up to a FireWire bus analyzer

and captured all the transactions. Not a single error transaction was

received, but the camera never delivered a single packet of video

data. Effectively it was dead on a Mac and only works on a Windows PC.

I'm told these new cameras have a newer firmware version and that

appears likely to be the issue. Older versions of the camera work

fine, but not the new ones.

So for the time being, I can not recommend the currently shipping

"Imaging Source Cameras" as usable on a Mac. They will likely need a

new firmware upload to make them work, as this appears to be an

internal issue in the camera.

If I find out anything new, then I'll post back to the list ASAP.
