Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] New Imaging Source Cameras "A" and "B" series No Longer Mac compatible

Hi Raye;

It is a bummer to be sure and it appears to be just cameras with the new firmware loads.

I asked TIS today if they can give me a serial number cutoff date for their various cameras. All the cameras have a serial number printed on the case, so in theory it might be possible to say that a camera with a serial number of 35600050 is "bad" where as anything made prior to 355000050 is "good".

However, I don't know if that will work as I just went through my list of Astro IIDC licenses for cameras that work and have serial numbers ranging from 19600020 to 46500020. The camera I have here that doesn't work has a serial number of 35600050, which is in between.

The only good news is TIS is taking this seriously and is looking into this issue immediately.

I'll keep people posted if I find out anything new or have a fix for it.

HTH..

Hi Milton,

What a blow :o[ I suppose it's good that I didn't buy one but it has scuppered my plans though. I nearly bought a secondhand iMac specifically for it and also a filter wheel. I'm particularly keen on these cameras because of the great work Alan has done with his DMK camera. If a supplier had older stock of these cameras how would he ba able to tell it had the older firmware installed.

Hi Folks;

Over the past 6 months, I've had 3 reports of people having issues
with "The Imaging Source" DxK "A" and DxK "B" series cameras not
delivering video with Astro IIDC (two in the last week). By DxK I
mean DBK, DMK or DFK and it must be one of the "AF or "BF" series.
This is not an Astro IIDC issue, the cameras will not work with any
software on a Mac or if it does work, it does so intermittently.

To try and figure out what is going on, "The Imaging Source" sent me a
DFK 21BF04 camera today, and I can duplicate this behaviour perfectly.

To try and chase it down, I hooked it up to a FireWire bus analyzer
and captured all the transactions. Not a single error transaction was
received, but the camera never delivered a single packet of video
data. Effectively it was dead on a Mac and only works on a Windows PC.

I'm told these new cameras have a newer firmware version and that
appears likely to be the issue. Older versions of the camera work
fine, but not the new ones.

So for the time being, I can not recommend the currently shipping
"Imaging Source Cameras" as usable on a Mac. They will likely need a
new firmware upload to make them work, as this appears to be an
internal issue in the camera.

If I find out anything new, then I'll post back to the list ASAP.
