Subject: Got my C9.25 and Fleas working!
Hi Milton:
I was in your neighborhood last night... Not Calgary, but right next
door to M37 in M36.
I finally got the two fleas working together on my C9.25 and Megrez 80
over the weekend. Had to replace the support structure that I'd
welded up with 1.5" steel angle with a massive "stick" of 3x10"
aluminum channel, half an inch thick. Since I have such a small space
between the doors beneath the scope and the roll off hatch cover, and
the channel takes up twice as much space as the steel angle did, I had
to modify my Celestron Wedge by moving the mounting points for the
latitude plate forward and down. I also remount the base plate back
one set of bolt holes from the front, and cut off the protruding side
thingys. So, now I can't sell the wedge (not that I would). But it's
slightly stiffer, and it all fits the space when rotated horizontal.
But it could still be a lot stiffer, and a couple inches lower so I
wouldn't have to remove the Megrez before closing the cover. I'm
going to have to make a whole new wedge, it seems. But not right now!
Anyway, I experimented with mount control settings with the Flea and
0.6 FR through the C9.25 until I got decent (though not the best,
perhaps?) guiding, and ROUND STARS through the Megrez with the Flea2.
Best object last night was M36. When I get home tonight, I'll
process and post an image.
-Tim.
