That does sounds like a connection problem, but I'm not sure if it's the cable, the camera connector or perhaps the Mac's FW800 port.


With mine they included two cables, a FW800 to FW800 cable and a FW800 to FW400 cable. You could try it out using the FW800 to FW400 cable and see if that works or not. If it does work, that likely rules out the camera being the the problem and it's either the FW800 to FW800 cable OR the FW port on your Mac.
