Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Potentially dumb question

Hi Jim -

Jupiter is going to be a very tough customer for the next few years. I would recommend using your mono camera and a color filter wheel. Imaging At 24 degrees, Jupiter in white light is going to be a soft furball on almost every night for mid northern latitudes.

Plan your capture of red and green in sequence - you can probably go 2.5 -3 minutes or so combined (depending on your EFL and the seeing) with minimal effect of blurring from rotation. You should be able to capture 1200-1400 frames in each. You can prepare a nice luminance image by averaging the red and green processed images together. The blue stream should be captured right after R and G. Since it will be used in the RGB but not luminance, the blue fringe that will result from a 4-5 minute total capture time can be tuned down with LRGB technique. I think you will find the effects of atmospheric turbulence using narrow bands of the visible spectrum much more subdued than in white light. This technique is easier to use on Jupiter than on Saturn because there is a lot more light.

Hi everyone,

I feel dumb asking this but ... I want to take simultaneous streams of

colour and mono video of Jupiter with my Unibrain and PGR Flea but need

to have two copies of AstroIIDC running. I know that this is possible

with people imaging and autoguiding using AstroIIDC at the same time, I

just can't my Powerbook to open two copies of it. Help!
