I think so too. All the other images have very faint marks on them, but it's hard to say what they are. The first one does look like "something", especially since the dark bands appear to continue around the limb.


Oddly enough, even though the Venus Express is in orbit around Venus, there are no recent pictures from it for comparison.

You'd think that you'd be able to go to their web site and see what venus looks like in IR or UV that day, just like they do with Soho or NASA sites - but nope, nothing at all current.

Does you filter have a very narrow 

bandwidth transmission at 360nm? 


Yes.


My Baeder filter transmits between 300-400 with a 

70% transmission peak at about 360 nm.


The Schuler filter transmits a bit less (about 60% at about 370 nm) and has a narrower pass. It's also opaque to IR, but the Baader isn't.
