It depends on what sort of imaging (i.e. Solar, Lunar, Planetary, Stellar Astrophotometry, Comets, DSO etc. etc. ) your interest in.

Thank you Milton for the thorough response.

I am fortunate to live under fairly dark skies.  About 6 weeks ago my wife and I moved within 9 miles of this Clear Sky Clock after about 2 years of looking in this area.  It is the darkest we could get and still not get too far away from the 9 grandkids (and 1 due in Dec).

I normally drive over to the observing field there to observe.  This will be my first goto scope and I am looking forward to learning more about astrophotography, although my 1st love is visual astronomy.

I am retired and on a closely monitored (by the chief financial officer) astronomy budget, so I will probably get a fairly inexpensive camera to begin with, which I am sure will mean mostly bright objects at first.  Who knows what will follow.  I am selling a boat to buy the telescope.  I have another asset I am trying to sell which will finance the camera I hope.
