Subject: Re: autoguiding primer?

Right. Sorry about that. OK. Got all set up. Got a bright star on the monitor, made

adjustments like 4x4 binning and black point. Focused pretty well. All seemed fine until I

tried to calibrate. The message I get is something like: "No motion detected. Problem with

USB, GPUSB or motors not working."

The sticky buttons work, or a least two of them - Up and Left (or was it Right?) So I am

confused by the message. I mean the sticky buttons wouldn't work if there were a

connection problem, right? But then, all four should work instead of just two. hmm

My setup:

ASGT 9.25/ Firewire webcam/ AstroIIDC 3.0/ iMac 500mhz/OS10.3/GPUSB using USB port

on the mac to Autoguide port on the mount.

not imaging anything right now, just learning to guide. Thanks for any tips

I'm looking for a step by step autoguiding primer of sorts. I have

Milton's instructions of

course but I got stuck at calibration. Will likely get stuck again

so I thought I would ask.

Hoping there is something out there that can get me unstuck - even

if it is not written

specifically for Astro II DC. Perhaps a guide with some general

principles of autoguiding

that have been helpful to folks using Astro IIDC.

Can you clarify what you mean by "but I got stuck at calibration"?

As to a general guide, here is two links to lists of things to check

before attempting guiding.

The first is by Darryl Robertson creator Equinox and is on the

Equinox list:

and the second link is some additions I added that are more Astro

IIDC specific:

Points 12, 13 and 14 from my list are very important, as is having

good polar alignment.
