Subject: Possible Membership Changes to Group

Hi Folks;

I'm getting tired of some of the spammers that join this group and

then post spam messages. Sometimes it's obvious what they intend on

doing and I remove and ban them as soon as I am notified of their

joining. But it's turning into a PITA to do this and sometimes they

beat me to the punch, which happened twice this week.

So I am  considering changing the membership of this group from Open

(i.e. anyone can join) to Restricted (i.e. I approve all requests for

membership). If i change to restricted, new people have to send me an

e-mail before they can join and explain why they want to join the

group, then I approve them.

Before I do this, I'd like feedback from people on this group on

whether they feel this is a bad idea or not. I'd rather not restrict

access, but I really hate spam show up and having to deal with it myself.
