Subject: Beta version of Astro IIDC 3.02.03 Up
Folks;
It's taken a week of my time (maybe I should send Steve J. the $5,000+
CDN bill for this), but I think I've tracked down and worked around
all of Apple's bugs in Leopard. They obviously did no Q&A for
PowerPC, Rosetta or Carbon for Leopard.
This is not the final .dmg release version, it's just to make sure
things work on as many Mac x86 systems as possible that I can't afford
to buy or don't have time to test with.

This fixes the endian issues Apple screwed up in FireWire which
prevented Astro IIDC from accessing the camera and a bunch of other
broken GUI Carbon bugs that wrecked registration module and caused
hangs in a non functioning Apple CFRunloop that ate all mouse clicks
that Apple introduced in Leopard. We only tested under Leopard 10.5.1,
however 8/16 bit stacking, 16 image processing, camera functionality,
camera settings, preferences, Guiding using KeySpan and GPUSB, are all
working fine now.
Additionally, I have released the Universal version of our Bayer Codec:
http://www.outcastsoft.com/ASC_Bayer_Installer30000.zip
which means you don't need to rely on Rosetta emulation for playback
on x86 anymore. The Original 2.03 PowerPC codeWarrior version of the
Codec is faster for PowerPC than this release, and that's because
Xcode generates poorly optimized PowerPC code.
If you have any issues with either release, please notify me
immediately with details at:
support@outcastsoft.com
I'd like to get the final .dmg built release done by then end of next
week, so please file bug reports ASAP.
If it's a crash we need to see the crash log file named "Astro
IIDC.crash.log"
which is created at:
~/Users/YourUserNameHere/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/Astro IIDC.crash.log
On a side note for Leopard users. If you let the Apple updater do the
10.5.1 update (which I did do), you may want to download the 110
megabyte 10.5.1 standalone updater and then do the update again. I
found a tonne of problems with disk utilities that could not be
repaired which "went away" after I re-did the update using the stand
alone version for both x86 and PowerPC Macs. I also had stability and
performance issues with 10.5.1 that "disappeared" after the second big
update too. This was on Wiped and re-Installed Macs, so there was no
carryover from 10.4.x which should be the cleanest way to install Leopard.
Performance and stability wise, your better off staying with OSX
10.4.10 than going to Leopard. Perhaps when Apple has hit release
10.5.03 it may be better, but for now it simply isn't up to snuff -
especially for recording video.
Hope That Helps..
