Interesting discussion, but I"m not going to scrap my 12" newt ; )   In 

areas of mostly poor to fair seeing, it would seem camera selection is 

also a factor.  where do you think there is a decision of one-shot 

color v. monochrome camera?  My area of the Rocky Mtn.s is generally 

bad seeing with rare nights of good seeing. Is a mono DMK camera worth 

it for the extra sensitivity?  I tend to think the extra time changing 

filters would lose those few moments of good seeing.

it is exactly my viewpoint. A planetary scope must be chosen first 

considering the average 

seeing of the usual observing location. As the fantastic images by 

Alan suggest, three factors 

make the difference actually: collaborating seeing, scope (aperture 

and quality), imaging 

skill.
