As I said before, those are "Color Enhanced" using the Saturation in the Image Processing part of Astro IIDC. The left side of the ones like Luna_Enhanced_20050216_MJA.jpg are about the originals and the right side I used the Saturation tool (about a 4 value) to tease out the subtle colors. Then you use 0.01 increments of the Red Green Blue gains to fine tune the colors.
For the Mare Humboldtianum, I used about a 0.3 value for saturation just to bring out the brownish colors of the mares of the moon.
My initial images in the movie usually pretty drab grayish brownish, which is how i have it color balanced initially. I almost never use the Spot or Color Balance features and just do it manually. For the moon, I normally turn on the Live Histogram and then adjusting the Red / Blue sliders until the Red Green Blue curves the merge into one line.
