Subject: Triesnecker, Hyginus and Mare Vaporum

Hi Folks;

I had 7 to 8 out of 10 seeing last night and managed to capture an

area of the moon that I have had no luck getting proper illumination

and decent seeing for in a long time.

Seeing was better just before sunset, but the blue sky glow gave me a

blue tint to all the shadow areas, so I had to wait until it got darker.

The left image is "normal" colors and the right side is "enhanced"

colors using a value of 3 for saturation. The Bluer areas are more

titanium rich and much of the are has a coat of ash, which dissipates

as one moves to the right. Note the small dome on the almost

featureless Mare Vaporum in the top left part of the image.

I was imaging with the C8 at an effective focal length of 5000 mm

using a 2.5x Televue and a Flea 640x480 color camera in 16 bit mode at

15 fps.

Astro IIDC 4 auto picked the sharpest frames and I had it select 55 to

70 frames out of 1000 to 1100 frames in for each of the ten 640x480

movies. Imaging processing for color balance, sharpening, Luma Curves

and noise suppression was done in Astro IIDC 4. I then merged and

blended the 10 stacked images in "MyCompositor" to create the final

stitched result.

Seeing dropped off after this and the remaining 15 gig of video I shot

was fairly mediocre.
