Subject: Re: Odd problem when using sharpening before stacking

Chris;

This may show up twice - my normal e-mail hots if all fornicated up

today so I'm getting mail from some sources and not others.

Firstly, the Bayer Codec is never needed for recording - it's only

needed for playback or stacking. So something else might be going on here.

As indicated on the Astro IIDC web site for trouble shooting, I need

to know what Mac model (PowerPC, x86, Desktop Laptop Mini etc.) how

many CPU's it has (single core, dual core, quad core, 8 core) , how

much Ram, what OSX version, which version of QuickTime and which Astro

IIDC variant (Universal or PowerPC) of 4.03 this is.

Since it's a Stacking related issue, I need to know what make and

model that camera is, I need to see that movie recording capture log

and I need to see the Stacking Log that was created for this movie, so

that if I need to set up a test rig, I can duplicate all your stacking

settings exactly. But since this is on Yahoo, you can't send me text

attachments to me, which brings me to the next point.

I really would prefer that people send bug reports to me directly at

the bug reporting address (support@outcastsoft.com). This keeps

clutter to a minimum (we will be at at least 5 e-mails before I have

the information I need to figure out what is going on), and then you

can just e-mail the images or other data (like logs, dumps of data,

images etc.) directly too me rather than posting them on a web site.

However since my piece of fornicating mail / web host is screwed up

again (tip - don't ever go to domain direct for web site hosting), you

need to use my "maupperl@shaw.ca" address.

Thanks

Finally the sky was cooperative so I could image Saturn.

Before I started imaging I installed the latest 4.003 Version.

Strangely I needed to reinstall the Bayer codec before it would record

a movie. Seems like the old version does not work with the IIDC

version 4.003?

However finally I got around this small problem.

Today when I tried to stack the movies I ran into a strange problem

that  resulted in "false" colour images after stackting.

After experimenting with the settings I found that the option

"Sharpening before stacking" was the reason for the strange results.

It seems to happen only at the setting "Medium-High", lower settings

seem to be OK.

I used the same setting on the older versions without problems.

I uploaded an example showing the problem:
