Tim,

Have you tried rebooting while holding down the "SHIFT" key? This

should restart your Powerbook in a sort-of Mac "Safe Mode", loading

only necessary components, etc. A system check is also performed

during this kind of start up, and it may take several minutes.

Sometimes the fan in G4 Desktops spins much faster during this

startup, so if that happens, it's normal.

Anyway, if you haven't, give this a go. If it starts up like this, you

should be able to get to disk utilities. If so, run repair permissions.
