Tim,

Good.  Put the HD back in, and try starting up with

the startup disk first.

The 'pooter can boot on the CD or DVD, but the HD can

still be bad.

You can use the Disk Utility on the startup disk to

first run Disk First Aid on the HD.

That should tell you something.

If Disk First Aid doesn't work, try a more

sophisticated disk tool, like Tech Tool or something

similar.

As a last resort, you can attempt to reformat

(erase!!) the HD with Disk First Aid.  If it works,

then you still have your HD but everything on it has

been overwritten.  You can reinstall the OS from the

start up disk(s) and go from there.

However, I'd be in the market for a new HD, unless you

plan to upgrade from the PowerBook G4 to something

newer.

Okay guys, this is interesting...

I took out the hard drive, put a battery back in and

connected the

power adapter.  Now, when I turn the computer on, it

immediately goes

to the "folder with a question mark" icon and spins

up the startup

disk.  But it keeps spinning up the disk and

spinning it down again.

It never boots off it.

One thing they didn`t supply for the Mac Mini

My wife had a "toilet seat" iBook that got a

made her check her bag (and she forgot the

computer was in it!).  I

bought a new replacement that was a much nicer

screen.  I remember it

being kind of strange and complicated to swap

out, but I didn't have

any real trouble, just had to be careful of

where all the parts were.
