Subject: Astro IIDC preferences issue

The time has come to air one of my pet peeves about a minor software

issue. I have a license for my MacBook and my G5. My DMK camera is

always kept on the telescope in the Florida Room with a firewire

attached to make for quick connection with the MacBook outside. When

the photography is finished the MacBook is brought inside and connected

to the G5 desktop. Typically 5 - 10 GB of movies are transferred to the

local drive on the G5. All the stacking and processing is done on the

much faster G5. The software needs to be told where to put the stacked

files. You must open the preferences to set the directory for those

files. But the preferences is grayed out unless you attach the camera.

So to change directories, I have to remove the camera and drag it into

the house with the barlow on it so the CCD stays clean. Surely there

can be a simple solution to this problem, perhaps one I've overlooked.
