The time has come to air one of my pet peeves about a minor software

issue. I have a license for my MacBook and my G5.

My DMK camera is

always kept on the telescope in the Florida Room with a firewire

attached to make for quick connection with the MacBook outside. When

the photography is finished the MacBook is brought inside and connected

to the G5 desktop. Typically 5 - 10 GB of movies are transferred to the

local drive on the G5. All the stacking and processing is done on the

much faster G5. The software needs to be told where to put the stacked

files. You must open the preferences to set the directory for those

files.

That's not correct. You don't need to to do that from the Camera Preferences menu and that folder (selected with the "Select default folder for grabbed frames, movies and logs..." button)  is only used for Capturing Images, Movies and Capture text logs. So it has nothing to do with stacking or image processing.

But the preferences is grayed out unless you attach the camera.

So to change directories, I have to remove the camera and drag it into

the house with the barlow on it so the CCD stays clean. Surely there

can be a simple solution to this problem, perhaps one I've overlooked.

For Stacking, you set the default folder that images get saved to using the ""Select default folder for saving stacked frame(s) to..." button in the "Stacking Options..."  windows. That sets the default folder to use for saving your stacks.

Also there is a big bad bug in Leopard where it will ONLY select the last folder used. We keep track of your choices for the five folders you might be saving different files to and tell OS X to use this or that folder as a default. However as soon as you go to the Apple OS X "Save As" window, Leopard ignores where we tell it to place the default location and selects the last used folder. In 10.3 and 10.4 it all works fine, but not buggy Leopard. I've reported this to Apple in 10.5.1 and they have done squat to fix it. Too busy working on Steve's iBidet project to properly test or fix their OS.

HTH..
