Milton,

I certainly understand your concern and share it. I see that the new MacBook Pros still have FW 800 plus USB 2.0. I realize that the FW 800 spec. and ports are different than the original FW spec. but is there any future in IIDC cameras moving to FW 800?

All of my PGR cameras are already FireWire 800 and FireWire 800 (or higher) is becoming PGR's defacto standard.

TIS makes lower end cameras and only does FireWire 400 as they aren't doing 16 bit per pixel video or large formats (i.e.  > 2K by 2K pixels).

Other FW camera manufacturers do as they see fit, depending on what Market they are addressing.

Intel makes all of Apples and most of the other companies motherboards, so Intel has no interest in having a competing standard (i.e FireWire) on their boards.

Or is USB 2.0 the future?

If USB 2 is the "Future", then I may as well switch to Windows as none of the camera companies want to share their low level details. Welcome to Windows for all scientific imaging on the Mac.
