Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] DBK on Astromart

There have been other threads on this group that discuss the pros and cons of color vs. mono cameras - might be worth doing a search through the archives.

In addition to the resolution advantage of the imaging chip in a mono camera, there is a noticeable improvement in atmospheric stability using a monochrome camera and filters to isolate narrow slices of the visible spectrum - perhaps corresponding to 1-2 levels on the pickering scale, depending on the wavelength of light (stability increases witht he wavelength of light.) There is, of course, a loss of light with filtration too - which will bring the mono camera closer to the sensitivity of the color models.

I have a DBK 21A F04.AS & it`s a colour job.("B" stands for Bayer) The "M" in DMK stands for Mono. With the Monos you`ll have to image using a colour filter wheel whereas the colour camera does it all in one shoot. i.e you`d have to take 4 movies- LRGB of each object being imaged. My next purchase may well be a Mono of some description as they give higher resolution images. Mark. P.S The DFKs are also colour jobs I understand.
