Subject: [Astro_IIDC] a survey of solar prominences

Hi all,

Over the past four years I've taken quite a few pictures of solar prominences. I enjoy the tremendous variation in size and shape and often succumb to the temptation to describe them by the earthly forms they suggest. I've put together this survey of some of my favorites. Each panel of the mosaic contains a link to the full image and other observations.

There is one with my anthropomorphic descriptions:

and one waiting for you to supply titles:

It is interesting to note that the change in character and intensity of the prominences during the progression towards solar minimum last year.

Some warm data for a frigid Buffalo morning... I hope you enjoy them!

best wishes,

Alan
