Hi Mark,

The mono camera would be necessary to image Venus at UV wavelengths. It is obscured from my backyard too - but the best time to try is when the sky is still light. I've always wanted to try when Venus is at the meridian, but haven't yet.

Thanks for your thoughts. The plane came down about 15 miles east of my location in downtown Buffalo. Unfortunately we did have a friend on the passenger list.

best regards,

Alan

Hi Alan, great Venus.I understand from what Milton`s saying, a mono camera is best for imaging it? It`s always pretty well obscured by one tree or the other in the west here from my observing position! By the way that passenger plane that came down crashing into a house in Buffalo was nowhere near you I take it? When I heard Buffalo I was thinking of you! Mark.

Hi all,

Here is an image of Venus captured on February 6 using the Baader CaK-

line filter:

This filter isolates an 8nm bandpass centered at 395nm in the near UV.

Seeing wasn't very good (it rarely is in this part of the spectrum) -

some subtle cloud structures can be seen.

best,
