Hi Alberto;

By the way ..when you'll have some time maybe you could allow to personalize some part of the filename because often it becomes too long if adding my description . IExample 20090321_005952_L_Ptole_Alpho_Arza.mov

Unfortunately some 3rd party softwares  are still problematic with names longer than 31 characters.

You can already do this for file / movie capture. Open the Preferences and then select the "prompt user" menu selection in the "When saving files use:" pop up menu, as described on pages 63 and 64 of the Astro IIDC manual. Then it prompts you for the file name to use for each frame or movie captured.

Your identifier is the best one meaning that it resumes all the time data.

Maybe it's possible to trunk the Millennium/Century 2 chars (2009 = 09?).

Nope. I really do not want a repeat of the last Millennium bug surfacing again, even if it is 991 years away. Those that don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat those errors ad inifinium.

The main reason is to make the files unique, so it won't over write it. If the same name already exists (like sequence files), then it auto over writes it and does not warn you about it.

HTH..
