Hi Tim;

You might want to look at a Used G4 LapTop as an

alternative for a Field Computer though.

Well, I still have a g4 laptop.  I suppose I could use it for most imaging, just thought it would be nice to be able to leave the Windows box at home by having parallels and xp on an intel mac in the field.  I've been running parallels 4.0 and windows xp on my MacPro at work to run ArcMap and Global Mapper, and am totally in love with the ability to go back and forth between my Mac and Windows apps so smoothly and quickly.  ...not that I could afford this beast at home!  (16GB RAM, two 1TB HDs and two 0.5TB HDs!)

On the camera front:  Any special reason Pt Grey put the 2/3" chip

in a flea2, but not the exview HAD that's in the grasshopper?

No real idea why they did that.

It could be a heat issue though, as the cameras do heat up with the

EXHAD CCD's in them.

I was initially not very impressed with the EXHAD Grasshopper for

long exposures as they had really high noise levels until I began

cooling it down. If they begin running in the 30°C range, then the

noise levels become quite excessive (i.e. salt and pepper backgrounds).

Have you seen the S&T ads for the opticstar cameras with that chip (I think, could be wron) in them and TEC?  But those are USB cameras.  And didn't the latest DSI Pro have that ccd in it?  They were on sale "cheap" a while back, but I don't know if they still are.  Also, no TEC and USB as well.
