Thanks for the links Milton. I have a similar experience to other long time Mac users with virtually no hardware failures (save an occasional Imac CD ROM drive death after many years) in 30 some odd macs over the years.

My laptop will be covered under the warranty extension for this problem - will get a new logic board tomorrow. Apple is also refunding for the misdiagnosed repair done last year - they replaced the screen half of the clamshell attempting to solve this problem.

best,

Alan

Hi Allan;

Lots of people have a similar issue, which is one reason I'm not really interested in replacing my G4 Laptop any time soon.

You can also read through some of Quality issues at:

especially after about 2007.

The switch to lead free solder has called major reliability issues with all electronics, primarily because of tin dendritic growths / whiskers.

Also, the lack of a expansion slot on a Pro Mac laptops and the glossy screen are major issues for me. Apple could have left the PC/34 express slot and bundled a card reader with it, but they removed it instead. So in 2 years when USB 3 supplants all other interfaces, you have to replace your Mac laptop as it's non expandable and you can't add that interface. Also you can't run multiple I/O anymore either, like multiple FireWire, USB or Gigabit Ethernet either busses either, like I do with my G4 Mac Laptop now. Or if your Mac's out of warranty and FireWire / Ethernet / USB / WireLess  or even the Screen dies, you throw it out because you can't add that interface via an expansion slot and have to buy a $1,000+ motherboard.

Exciting stuff to watch on Jupiter!

Unfortunately I have a laptop on the fritz - a funky video controller on my '07 Macbook Pro making some psychedelic images and constant machine crashes. Seems to be a documented problem at this point... will have to bring it in for a new logic board tomorrow. Anyone else experience this problem?

thanks,

Alan
