Hi Folks;

I've been following the issue Terrence reported and then adjusting my suggestions as I saw questions I was going to ask get answered here. I've e-mailed Terrence privately on what he can try next, but I'm very sure this is a hardware issue. So it's most likely Cable, A dead FireWire port or a Bad Camera.

The simplest way to test to see if the Camera is showing up is the following.

Select the "Apple" item from the menu bar (far left), then select the "About this Mac.." menu item. When the "About this Mac.." window appears, click on the "More Info Button.." A window will appear with an open list of items on the left  sidelike "Hardware", "Network" , "Software" categories. What I want you to do is click on the "FireWire" item under the "Hardware" category. If any devices are attached, then the should show up in the information window to the right, similar to what is shown below (this is 10.4.11, it may look different under 10.5.x). This is how a DMK21AF04.AS shows up on my Mac. (The image below may not make it onto the list, which is why I strongly recommend trouble shooting via e-mail).

If the camera or a "device" does not show up, then it's definitely a hardware issue.

Next try:

1) Different Cable. A bad cable can cause these sort of issues. Luckily your cable isn't intermittent, which makes it a real pain to diagnose as one time it's okay, the next time it isn't.

2) Different Macs. You can use the above test to see if it shows up on any Mac and do not need to load any software on it. Mac Fire Wire ports sometimes go dead and Zapping the PRAM sometimes solves it.

If both of the above make no difference (different cable and different Mac), you have a dead camera. Call "The Imaging Source" (TIS) or whomever sold you the camera and tell them it's dead and ask for a replacement.

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the suggestion.  I just did.  I also opened iMovie to see if the camera appears in the video source list and it does not.  Now I am casting about for another Firewire cable to see if that solves the problem.
