Hi Mark;

I totally agree on accessing that preference. It should be accessible without needing to fill in all that other stuff.

I'm sure that's why I didn't bother try to document it, cause it's such a PITA to describe the work around. Basically if you don't have an account set up,  just let it to do whatever it wants as defaults and just click through all the freaking buttons until it lets you use that preference, then uncheck it.

I eventually just opened an AOL e-mail account and then let it use that, so that I didn't have to fart around with it.

As to the different Id's, it's just as bad or worse if you have developers accounts, personal accounts and purchasing accounts and try to log in to access bug reporting on one of four different Macs or need to purchase something etc. KeyChain is no help at all because the same form style is used for multiple places - so either the user name or password is wrong.

TTYL..

Thanks for the clue Milton,

But to use Preferences in iChat I have to open an account it seems. I must have tried 15 or more different combinations of my ID info & still it`s denying me. I have this trouble annoyingly very often with my Apple ID`s because they can`t sort themselves out between .mac & .me! Perhaps I`m supposed to remember my original .mac set-up ID from 2005 or perhaps it`s some strange hybrid?! At any rate I can`t find the correct information!
