Mark;
You may need to re-boot before it takes effect. Apple has all sorts of skanky notification kexts installed, and it may still be active and not gotten the message or read the updated preferences that it should stop that behavior.

Hi Terry,
Now I`ve come back to the computer I notice it`s already assigned me
an AIM account. I`ve unchecked the box Milton`s talking about in
Preferences (& the other 2 boxes there with it) but on plugging the
camera in I`m still getting an automatic opening of iChat!? It`s got
me bollocksed!

Start a AIM account on AOL. There free and iChat is just as happy

top of the AIM Buddy List becomes clickable and selectable.

Thanks for the clue Milton,
But to use Preferences in iChat I have to open an account it seems.
I must have tried 15 or more different combinations of my ID info &
still it`s denying me. I have this trouble annoyingly very often
with my Apple ID`s because they can`t sort themselves out
between .mac & .me! Perhaps I`m supposed to remember my
original .mac set-up ID from 2005 or perhaps it`s some strange
hybrid?! At any rate I can`t find the correct information!

Hi Mark;
Thanks for the iChat grabbing reminder. I keep forgetting to
mention this in the manual.
You can permanently force iChat not to do this by unchecking the
"Automatically open iChat when camera is turned on" in the Video
panel of the iChat Preferences. Then it doesn't launch and grab
the camera each time it gets plugged in.

Hi Terry,
I presume you`ve connected the TIS camera via firewire cable to
the FW port on your Mac. You should get iChat opening straight
away. Cancel that by going to iChat in the menu bar & Quit iChat.
Open Astro IIDC (put it in the Dock for convenience) go to the
camera window in the menu bar & Open Camera. Then press Start
Video. You should get a Video Preview window come up. You won`t
get anything marvellous inside but presuming you point the camera
at a light source (say a desklamp) you should see the Video
Preview window light up...?
