I'm not sure yet. This first image was made by copying two frames from two movies opened in QT7 and then pasting them into layers in Photoshop. I can't tell from my log file in AstroIIDC whether the movies were captured in 8bit or 16bit mode (I used both yesterday.) I am currently processing some prominence movies in AstroIIDC. The stacking status window shows me that the frames being stacked are 16 bit... I will try a log stretch on these to see.
