Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] First light PGR Scorpion ccd and Skywatcher Dob

Hi Jim;

Nice looking scope.

How good is the tracking dob, especially at high magnification?

TTYL..

To bring you all up to date, I sold the 16" truss dob that I got going earlier this summer because it was just too big to store, tracking was difficult to control and correct during imaging and the optics were mediocre.  As a visual deep sky low power scope it was fine and I sold it to a guy who lived outside of ThunderBay where it's really dark!

So I got myself one of these really compact and nice performing Skywatcher 12" collapsible dobs and converted it to Meade Autostar GOTO so that it would track and allow me to do planetary imaging.

And I also snagged one of those eBay Scorpion deals from a few weeks past and tried it for the first time tonight.  I used a ROI of about 1000x800 and imaged the Moon at 30fps stacking about 100 out of 1000 frames.
