@Milton:

Hello Milton,

i think that it is the "diurnal" libration due to the observer translation during half rotation of the Earth. Some time ago i added a file about a 3D view of South Pole with a graphical explanation of this (apparent only) libration.

Anyway noticed that even the real libration sometimes appear very fast while sometimes appear slow.

Now i did a fast sequence with the 5 unprocessed stacks that i used for the animation.

I  performed a 2 points alignment so that the left side is pinched and stable.

As you can see the right part of the image progressively moves contracting.

 The righter part of the movie has wider and faster shift.

About seeing: you see that my stack are very blur and variable.

I did a very nasty job to equalize the details, brightness, deformation etc. in order to render a very still image.

This is a single frame about Aristarchus movie: it is depressing LOL

by the way...Milton why often i get such diagonal lines?

Anyway you are right: Copernicus was only 2 hours and being it pretty centered the libration effect is less evident than close to the borders while Bilharz covered 4hours and half and it was closer to the border.

@Terrence Redding:

Hi Terrence, thx for comments.  I read your question and i try a very concise answer: i grabbed a sequence every half an hour (to be true the latest were got at 40 minutes or 1 hour). Then i aligned them and mounted with a time wide filter that allows to simulate the missed frames. Please terrence don't hesitate to ask further questions!

I didn't understand exactly what you wanted to know!

Ciao!

Alberto

Hi Alberto;

Very nice sequences.

I did not think that libration would make much of a difference over say a 2 or 4 hour period, like in the Copernicus sequence? If you were shooting over several months I could see that happening but not in a few hours. Or am i missing something?

I've tried this in the past, however the skies here are not stable enough over a long enough period to make it worth the attempt. It might be better this winter at the new location because there are no buildings to the south of me (at least not right now) which rile up the local air path ways.
