Try a different FireWire 400 cable would be my only suggestion.

Bad cables can cause all sorts of issue.

Tried FW 400 and 800 with convertor ... also tried 10.6 and 10.5 both intel ...

The camera shows the green light at the back and becomes warm ... so it powers up alright I guess ....

Any other tests I can do?
